Since there is an absence of a Bathurst radio club myself and VK2PWR are both members of the Orange and District Amateur Radio Club. We try and participate in as many of the club events as possible and would like to encourage all other local amateurs to do the same (even if ODARC is not your local club). I am amazed as to just how much the club has changed in the 12 months that Simon and I have been members. Simon and I have both become part of the club executive (I was roped into everyone's favourite position of Club Secretary, Simon is on the club committee) One of the BIG events the club has been involved with lately is the Parkes Radio Telescope open day. Simon and I went over to Parkes on the Saturday with a few of the other club members and manned a stand there. We had a lot of interest from the general public and generally quite a fun day. The stand was shared with the WIA and had all sorts of "stuff" there. I would like to pass on my thanks to those parties that supported our stand. We had stuff from Icom, Kenwood, Andrews Communications, WIA, and of course stuff ODARC put together for the event. We also put together a club CD which included all sorts of info on Amateur Radio. The CDs went fairly quickly thanks to our club President Phil VK2FIL. The club is hoping to be very much involved with some of the up and coming Contests - especially looking forward to John Moyle Field Day as the next big contest. If you are local, or at least in the local area it would be great to hear from you. There is a link to ODARC and many other Radio Clubs (if ODARC is not local for you) in the links menu on this site. I encourage you to get in contact with the club, it is a great way to "encourage" others to be on the air, especially in those areas of Amateur Radio that you are particularly interested in. Either way I am sure the club would love to hear from you. 73 for now Bob |
