VK2FBOB will soon give a more detailed account of the weekend but as a short note I have decided to make a contribution. After the efforts setting the gear up and organising the batteries and equipment it was up to Bob to do the hard work and the night shift for the 24 hour contest. Fortunately he has a Kenwood TS2000 with dsp , even so ,dragging out those difficult signals on 40 was still a challenge, better with the heaphones on. But enough of the actual contest itself, the background involved a team of people. Months beforehand the mountaintop got a major upgrade in the way of equipment shed parts, solar panels and batteries. On the weekends preceeding the contest there was a lot of fine tuning of aerials, site preparations and monitoring of battery state. The day arrived and team got organised ; food and bedding to be prepared, equipment to be setup and backup gear readied. VK2XPH was head chef handling catering for the whole weekend, supervised by Ali the bluecattle dog :) Several support workers as well as ourselves and a soon-to-be Fcall worked behind the scenes to prepare dinner, breakfast, lunches etc so Bob could continue working the contest. There was a nice campfire and plenty of company during the night shift (except i went qrt well before midnight) and a sleep under the stars for the fellers Lots of fun was had by all, looking forward to the next contest. |
