Well, the contest has been and gone. I had heaps of fun participating, setting up the antennas, radios, "supplies" etc was tremendous fun. Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances VK2FSJE was not able to join me for the contest but I did have another mate of mine out at Mt Bluedog (besides VK2JDS and VK2XPH) who was not licenced at the time but has since sat for his foundation call - Congrats Garry VK2FGAZ. I spent the entire time of the contest up Mt Bluedog with the supplies mentioned earlier (all sorts of nibbles and a 5L keg of DAB beer). I do not think I was your usual sort of contest participant... Whilst I was trying to get my contacts I was also quite happy to have a chat with anyone who wanted a chat. I did have some great QSOs during the contest 24hr period, mostly with other VKs but some NZs as well as a few for from abroad. I was so surprised at just how many people were on the air (not sure why I was surprised... but I was), and not all the people on the air were participating in the contest (thanks to those of you not participating but gave me numbers :) ). I submitted my results a few weeks ago and am waiting to hear back. I had a couple of issues with my logs, but it was my very first contest so everything was a learning experience. Fingers crossed there are no further issues with my logs etc. In the beginning I aimed for the 100 contacts and am proud to say that I had fun getting them. Can't wait till next year :) I do have some pics to post - but they will come shortly (temp misplaced somewhere on my computer lol) 73 for now |
